Don Perlis

Don Perlis is a modern-contemporary figurative and representational painter inspired by themes of literature, mythology, theatre, and opera. In addition to his imagined compositions, Perlis draws from his lived experience – creating scenes of the lush greenery of the natural world to the unruly streets of his own New York City. Whether it is the beat of metropolitan life or the tranquil seascapes of Ischa, Perlis adorns his canvases with his characteristic soulful brushwork.

Perlis attended the Art Students League, New York, the School of Visual Arts, New York, and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Maine. Perlis has exhibited at Denise Bibro Fine Art, New York; the Lancaster Museum of Art, Pennsylvania; Walter Wickiser Gallery, New York; Graham Gallery, New York; Hobart and William Smith College, New York; the Heckscher Museum of Art, New York; the American Academy of Arts and Letters, New York; the National Academy of Design, New York; Castelnuovo Berardenga, Italy; Queens Museum of Art, New York; One Penn Plaza, New York; Artists Choice Museum, New York; Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute, New York; Squibb Gallery, New Jersey; Cleveland Institute of Art, Ohio; New York Cultural Center, New York; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
